SILVERFIT is a charity founded by the 77-year-old triathlete Edwina Brocklesby. It aims to bring older people together for a happier and healthier life, organising social and sportive events in different venues around London.
The Serpentine Golden Girls (SGG) are four ladies with a combined age of 280 years, relay-riding 3000 miles from West Coast of America with a cut off of 9 days this June. The inspiring team will be hoping to showcase that age needn’t be a barrier to physical exercise.
During the summer 2019 Stefania has been working as a personal assistant and PR for Edwina Brocklesby helping to promote her charity and raising sponsorship for the SGG Race Across AMerica.

The challenge behind RAAM is not just the hard training before the race, the six hours on and off for 9 days, in the night with no lights, in the cold or the hot and in the rain. The real challenge for our Serpentine Golden Girls goes beyond the Race Across America. It is an everyday challenge, it is a universal challenge. They want to show that age is just a number and that is never too late to start exercising.

Yesterday three of the four Serpentine Golden Girls met early at Heathrow airport, London, ready to start their epic adventure. Hilary Walker and the supporting crew will follow between today and tomorrow. They are also very excited to have a media teamheaded up by Kristin Duffy of Slackline productions, who are filming throughout, with a view to producing a documentary.
TRAINING UPDATE FROM EDWINA

The last two months of training haven’t been the easiest as I am combining it with a large amount of time working for Silverfit. We are planning to expand Silverfit service from our 17 existing venues in London. Every interview or podcast I do leads to more people asking for sessions near them, although it is satisfying seeing the growth of a supportive Silverfit family.
HAPPY MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK

This week is so important for our Golden Girls. Daily physical training is fundamental but not enough to complete the epic Race Across America. Mental health plays an equal important role for our mature athletes.
Imagine cycling 3,000 miles in 9 days, crossing 12 states with unfair terrain and real risk of injury. It can be pretty scary, especially for four 65+ ladies, but their strength reside in their union, which make physical effort easier and more fun!
